Make love, not war

Do guns really keep us safe or do they cause more harm than they do good?

 America is hung up on the concept that by surrounding ourselves in explosives, nuclear war heads and enough guns for every man, woman and child in america to own three, that we will make ourselves feel safer and deter others from harming us. However in more cases than not, this encourages others to arm themselves against us as we are then seen as more powerful and could also be a threat. In America in the last year alone there has been 11,369  gun related fatalities. Perhaps if we clamped down on gun laws and the manufacturing and production of firearms, there would be less availability of such destructive devices and gun crime statistics would see a major decrease.

Sophie's 2 cent's is basically my own thoughts and opinions on anything from social observations to headline stories in the news. First on the agenda, a topic often deemed as a "conversational taboo" abortion. In a country that values freedom so much that they introduce amendments to give people to the right to such things as freedom of speech, we are sucked in to this spiral of silence that makes us feel that we would be personally scrutinized and blasted by other people for exercising our own personal opinions which vary based on every individuals concept of right and wrong. Is society pressuring us all to believe that one certain point of view on abortion is right and essentially blast those who dare to stand up for what they believe in by labeling them as "murderers" for expressing their opinions otherwise?
